Panthers beat Senators 6–3 at Amerant Bank Arena on March 31, 2026.
The Florida Panthers emerged victorious against the Ottawa Senators, winning 6-3 in a game that was firmly in their control from the first period. The Panthers took advantage of their home ice, scoring five goals in the opening period and building an insurmountable lead that the Senators struggled to overcome.
As the season winds down, this matchup was critical for both teams. The Panthers, seeking to find their footing, entered the game with a 2-3-0 record in their last five games. The Senators, on the other hand, were riding a wave of momentum with a 4-0-1 slate. Despite the contrasting recent performances, the Panthers capitalized on their early success, giving them the crucial points they need in the playoff chase.
The game truly turned in the first period when the Panthers scored five times, including two goals from Carter Verhaeghe and strong contributions from Noah Gregor and Matthew Tkachuk. The Senators managed to find the net early in the second period with Drake Batherson's goal, inching closer to a comeback, but the Panthers quickly responded with a goal from Tkachuk, stifling any potential momentum Ottawa had.
Matthew Tkachuk was a standout player for the Panthers, notching a goal and two assists. His playmaking abilities clearly energized the team. Carter Verhaeghe also had a notable performance, scoring two goals and assisting on another, while Noah Gregor opened the scoring for the Panthers just eight seconds into the game. Seth Jones was integral as well, contributing three assists, establishing himself as a key facilitator throughout the game.
For the Senators, Jordan Spence and Michael Amadio provided some scoring to keep their team in the game; however, it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit created early on.
This win gives the Panthers a much-needed boost as they aim for a playoff spot, improving their record to 36-35-3 and bringing their point total to 75. It also signifies a potential turnaround as they head into the season's final stretch. The Senators, now at 87 points, will need to regroup after this loss to stay competitive in the playoff race.
The Panthers demonstrated both offensive firepower and the ability to respond to challenges, while the Senators will need to tighten their defense and address their slow start if they want to bounce back in future games.
