BOO-A: Alberta's Spookiest Halloween Showdown - The Heritage Classic Battle of Alberta
Oct. 27, 2023
Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers are going to match up on Sunday, October 29th outdoors in Edmonton as the seventh Heritage Classic game ever. This game is going to be very special for both teams this year. As always, the Battle of Alberta (BOA) is so exciting for the players and the fans. However, this year, apart from the outdoor setting that the teams are going to play in for the first time and the cool jerseys and eye blacks that they are going to wear, the game is happening in a very spooky season.
This is not only because it is two days from the Halloween but also the situation that both teams have been in this October which is probably one of the worst starts for both teams in the past few years as if they are both 'tanking for Connor Bedard'.
Team Performances
Both teams have lost their past four games and fans are so unhappy from their teams and players coming to this game:
Calgary Flames performance from Oct. 20, 2023 to Oct. 27, 2023
Flames struggle mostly with their offense this year after trading Tyler Toffoli. In the past four games, they've scored only four goals, and no power play goals at all.
Edmonton Oilers performance from Oct. 19, 2023 to Oct. 27, 2023
Oilers are also way far from the team with the best offense and special teams in the league last year with 7 goals in the past four games as they picked up only one point in the past week.
Player Performances
Apart from teams performance in the past few games, star players in both teams haven't showed up so far. Jonathan Huberdeu, Nazem Kadri and the new Flames captain Mikael Backlund hasn't played as expected so far this season. In addition, Flames experienced d-man, Rasmus Andersson, will watch this game from home as he is still suspended due to his hard hit against Blue Jackets' forward Patrik Laine.
Jonathan Huberdeau performance from Oct. 10, 2023 to Oct. 27, 2023
Nazem Kadri performance from Oct. 10, 2023 to Oct. 27, 2023
Mikael Backlund performance from Oct. 10, 2023 to Oct. 27, 2023
On the other side, the Oilers captian, Connor McDavid, has missed the past two games due to injury and won't be helping his team in the Heritage Classic. Oilers stars like Draisaitl and Nuge also haven't been able to help their team win games despite acceptable personal performance.
Leon Draisaitl performance from Oct. 10, 2023 to Oct. 27, 2023
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins performance from Oct. 10, 2023 to Oct. 27, 2023
All in all, the dressing room of the losing team of this Battle of Alberta (more of BOO-A than BOA this time) will be the spookiest haunted house all over Alberta after 5 consecutive losses. We'll tune up to see who wins the BOO-A and get out of the haunted house safely on Sunday.
