The Edmonton Oilers have emerged as one of the top contenders for this year's Stanley Cup, after a stunning first round of the NHL playoffs saw many of the league's top teams crash out early. While the reigning champions, the Colorado Avalanche, were considered to be one of the strongest teams in the league this season, the Tampa Bay Lightning, who made it to the finals for the past three years and the Boston Bruins with their record-breaking NHL season were also knocked out in the first round.

The Oilers' success so far has been largely due to the impressive performances of their two star players, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Both players have had career-high seasons, and have been instrumental in leading the team to their current position.

The Oilers' first round series against the Los Angeles Kings was a closely contested affair, with the teams trading wins back and forth. However, in the end, it was the Oilers who were able to come out on top, winning the series in six games.

Now, the Oilers are looking ahead to the next round of the playoffs, where they will face a tough challenge in the form of the Vegas Golden Knights. However, with the likes of McDavid and Draisaitl firing on all cylinders, the Oilers will be confident that they can continue their impressive run and go all the way to the Stanley Cup finals.

Of course, there are still many obstacles to overcome, and the Oilers will need to continue playing at their best if they are to achieve their ultimate goal. However, with many of the top teams already out of the picture, the Oilers are now in a prime position to make a serious run for the championship.

For Edmonton fans, it's an exciting time to be supporting their team, as they look to finally lift the Stanley Cup for the first time since 1990. With McDavid and Draisaitl leading the way, and a strong supporting cast around them, the Oilers have every reason to be confident that they can achieve this feat and cement their place in NHL history.
